“(S)tumble Down”
I entitled a journal entry of mine last September with these two words,
which is interesting because my biggest fear while running bleachers or
stairs is stumbling and tumbling like Humpty Dumpty and cracking an ankle,
which would then result in a direct threat to my competitive
possibilities. I never have fallen, not literally (except for that
time I dropped to the ground like a rag doll from the top of a 15-foot
high cargo net while preparing for the Galaxy). But figuratively,
I’ve fallen many a time. I’ve stumbled personally. I’ve
tumbled in placings competitively. But I’ve always taken Maya
Angelou’s words to heart and “still I rise.”
It would apparently make sense that my website would take a little
nosedive also and tumble into what seemed to be a virtual Bermuda Triangle
before resurfacing out of the dark waters like Shamu at Sea World.
Nowhere to be seen. Nowhere to be found. I won’t go into
details right now, but what began as a true, honest-to-goodness issue
turned into a negligent matter, which then resulted in a three-week
struggle to obtain a copy of my website. It is officially safe and
sound and in my possession.
Did I mention I won my class at that show?
I think that deserves repeating. I won the Lightweight Division
of the 2007 Team Universe. Let me rephrase. I am the 2007 Team
Universe Lightweight Bodybuilding Champion. Woah! That sends chills
down my spine. It gets even better, though, folks. As a reward
for winning the only drug tested NPC event at the national level, I earned
a spot to represent the U.S. at the 2007 IFBB World Amateur Women’s
Bodybuilding Championship in Spain on September 21st.
This was better than a pro card.
This was worth waiting for.
This was worth seven years and 20 shows filled with roller coaster
placings. This was worth every bite of chicken, every gulp of water,
every drip drop of sweat, every ounce of pain, every hour of sleep lost,
every bit of sacrifice made.
I have tons of news to share over the next six weeks while I prepare
for the World Championships, so please sit tight and check back often
while Isaac and I work to get my website up and running. I promise
my members that you will be tended to in order to make up for the lost
weeks. It’s only fair to y’all.
Stumbles, tumbles, scrapes, and breaks. Throw at me what you
will.
“Still I rise.”
